Driving around Hyderabad, India

Some random pictures from our drives around town. We had a great driver named Siraj who is a master of using the horn and weaving in and out of traffic. He often drove into oncoming traffic to get around slow cars, trucks, little yellow autos, bikes, and people walking in the middle of the street. We quickly found out that there are no rules on the road, and I'm very glad I didn't have to drive.

Ramoji Film City

Today Srinivas and Shivesh took us to Ramoji Film City. It is the world’s largest integrated film studio complex, at nearly 2,000 acres. It has over 500 set locations. All of the pictures above are taken in and around the sets. Twenty international films, and nearly forty Indian films can be produced simultaneously in the complex. Besides all the sets there is a whole theme park with rides and shows. It is very similar to Universal Studios, but much bigger. We went on a Sunday so there wasn't much filming going on, but we did get to see one film crew at work, and an Indian actor putting on makeup. At the end of the day, just before the last show we were planning on going to, it started raining so hard. We waited for 10 minutes in the doorway of a building, and then decided to make a run for it. By the time we got to the show we were all soaking wet. The only bad thing about the rain was it made the drive home take about twice as long. The traffic is really bad normally, but when it rains it gets crazy!

Golconda Fort

Today Srinivas and Ramesh took us to the Salarjung Museum where we saw the largest one-man collection of antiques in the world. We couldn't take any pictures here, so that's why I didn't post any. It was pretty amazing how much the Salar Jung family collected. There was also a special exhibit of the jewelry of the Nizam family. The most amazing part of the collection was the Jacob Diamond which is a 184 caret diamond. One of the Nizam sons found the diamond in the toe of his grandfathers slipper and then used it as a paper weight. They had a lot of money so a 184 caret diamond wasn't a big deal I guess. In the evening we went to the Golconda Fort. It is amazing how big this fort is, and how many people could live in it indefinitely if they were under attack. The fort was finally destroyed after the attackers successfully bribed the guards at the gate to let them in.

LA to Singapore to Hyderabad (almost)

Well, Jennifer and I are still not in India after about a day and a half of travel. Thankfully the seats in business class made the 14 hour plane ride much more bearable. We also had a chance to do a little exploring in Singapore. Jennifer bought magnets; I bought a drink.

Maisy's First Photo Shoot

If you haven't seen my dear friend Shelly's latest blog entry, you must. She inspired me to break out my pro camera and take some photos of my new favorite thing.

My dad predicted Maisy would be the most photographed dog, and I think he might be right.
